Hominid skeleton is found in Bali
Hominid skeleton in a coffin made of stone, called sarcophagus, found in Subak Saba, Village of Keramas, Blahbatuh, Gianyar, Bali, Saturday.
“Today we found two cases of stone, but only one which successfully opened, and it still contains an ancient human skeleton,” said Dra Kusumawati Ayu, a researcher at the Institute for Archaeology of Denpasar when met at the location of discovery, Saturday. From these findings, the team of Archeological Denpasar was deepening of the second coffin was a prehistoric relics called sarcophagus. Dra Kusumawati Ayu said, one of two things this has successfully opened the lid by the officers, and it still contains a human skeleton in the composition of a complete skeleton.
“While the other one, still in one piece, so we do not know its contents,” she said. She added, in addition to the human skeleton in the coffin early humans were also found in an old jug.
“Pitcher of length 15 cm was located right next to the skull of a human skeleton that in the coffin,” said Ayu explains. She said that, based on results of field measurements, two sarcophagi that were found to have different sizes.
“Sarkofgus a whole is a type of small coffins with length of 150 cm and 50 cm wide. While the sarcophagus which had been opened has a length of 100 cm and 12 cm wide,” she said. About the age that the sarcophagus, Ayu Kusumawati estimates that it has been around 2000 years ago or since prehistoric times.
“In those days people had known the metal tools. This is evidenced by the bulge of the human face or a mask that looked like a turtle at the end of the sarcophagus which is now found,” he said. In addition to familiar metals, continued Kusumawati, at that time also known as mutual assistance and a sense of unity and cohesion.
“The purpose of a cover made at the end of the coffin tomb was intended to provide a way for the spirits to the other world,” she said. She explained that usually is reserved for a cemetery with the sarcophagus to the influential people of that era.
“Only the nobility and the people who influence the use of such grave coffin,” she explained. Currently, Kusumawati said, her side along with other officers is still doing further research about the discovery of two sarcophagi.
“We still have on site to conduct further research before the two sarcophagi were evacuated to the Ancient Objects Preservation Hall,” she said.
